need a convenient way to strip whitespace

Here's an example of how call-tag has to look to avoid adding extra white space:
<def tag="call-tag" attrs="tag"><%= send(tag.gsub('-', '_'), attributes, parameters) -%></def>
If we had to write most of the tags like that in Rapid, things would get annoying very quickly. If def had an attribute that stripped out whitespace when set, that would be cool.
