fresh install, ubuntu 12.04. then I installed rails1.9.1-dev, which seems to be ruby 1.9.3, though some apps are 1.9.1. then I installed rails via gem1.9.1 install rails . then I started your 2-minute intro, which died with
The template [/tmp/hobo_app_template] could not be loaded. Error: Unable to activate hobo_support-1.3.0, because rails-3.2.8 conflicts with rails (~> 3.0.0)
I believe you already know this problem, but I just wanted to point out that you may want to enhance your 2-minute tutorial.

There are two potential solutions to your problem:
1)
gem uninstall railsbefore installing Hobo2)
gem install hobo --preto get the latest prerelease version of Hobo.There are lots of things that can go wrong installing Ruby & Rails which are completely outside of the scope of the tutorial.
Hobo 2.0 is very close to release, so that will fix that particular issue for a little while at least.
